Task Planning Research
Planning is crucial to make real progress. Students use carefully-designed SPEECH BUILDERS for each double-class to prepare and structure their thoughts. The Traffic Light Trainer then harnesses decades of research on what students should do pre-task, during-task and post-task to gain confidence and fluency.
Task Repetition Research
Repeating the same thing isn’t bad. Research on second language learning shows that three repetitions of the same oral task improves fluency across each round. But at a slower pace after that. Also, students start to get bored with too many rounds. So three rounds is the "sweet spot" for the Traffic Light Trainer.
Scaffolding Research
Students need to take small steps before they leap. They use their SPEECH BUILDERS to help them improve across increasingly difficult rounds of interaction. Each successive round allows reflection and planning to help students push themselves towards gradually putting down their textbooks and really communicating.
